The collection comprises eleven Buddhist canons, including the Tibetan Tripitaka, and the Koryo Tripitaka. The reference works also include the Satapitaka (Hundred Baskets of Teachings), a compilation of Indian thought and philosophy, as well as many other original source materials on Indian, Chinese and Japanese thought and religion.
The institute's collection of reference works has recently been catalogued on a computerized database system to increase their accessibility to researchers. It is also expanding its collection of recent research works and is assembling a section for foreign language research material on Japan, Japanese culture and religion.
