Exhibitions
In an event organized jointly with the St. Peterburg branch of the Russia Academy of Sciences Institute of Oriental studies, the IOP held an exhibition entitled "The Lotus Sutra and the Silk Road," in November 1998. Support for the event was received by the Russian Embassy, the ministry of Culture and other bodies.

Made available, free of charge for public viewing, were 47 rare and valuable items in some 14 languages, including Sanskrit. Most of these items such as original manuscripts, woodblock prints and other valuable materials belong to the collection of the St. Petersburg branch of the IOP at the Russian Academy of Sciences. It was for the first time that any of these items were made available for public viewing outside Russia.
