The IOP senior research fellows, research fellows, commissioned research fellows and overseas research fellows conduct studies related to peace, the environment, women’s studies, human rights, religion, bioethics and various other topics; and present lectures for further academic development. These researchers present lectures on the result of their studies at monthly research meetings and annual symposiums organized by the IOP.
 
Lotus Sutra
The IOP studies the Lotus Sutra, which is regarded as one of the most important sutras in Buddhist thought and Mahayana Buddhism, from three points of view:
1. Philological research of Lotus Sutra manuscripts
2. Philosophical research of the Lotus Sutra
3. Historical research of the Lotus Sutra
 
Problems Facing Humanity and Religion — Toward Interreligious dialogue
The IOP conducts research on Buddhism in order to solve various problems facing humanity related to peace, the environment, women’s studies, human rights, religion, bioethics and various other topics.

Buddhism and Its Expansion in Contemporary Society
The IOP conducts academic research on education, humanity, life, peace, civilization and the history of Buddhism as it develops in contemporary society.
